When Google was introduced, we can say that the world was a very different place. 1998 was a time without 90% of the technology we now have. Therefore, younger generations cannot imagine the world just a couple of decades ago. Opportunities were much narrower at that point in time. The only way for someone to surf the internet and insert queries in a search engine was through a desktop PC. 22 years after, there are a lot of different devices we can use to surf the internet. Not only that, we can see that typing queries is not the only way we can surf the internet. Voice technology slowly penetrates the world of the internet. When taking a look at some figures, you will see that Google’s word accuracy is over 95%. Plus, the predictions are saying that by 2023, we could expect more than 8 billion voice assistants all over the world. Last but not least, according to the newest Adobe survey, around 91% of businesses are interested in investing in voice technologies. That’s really impressive, right?
To get complete knowledge about the real potential behind voice technology, you need to be fully aware of two different aspects that can be found on the market. The first and more obvious is the component people use as some kind of interface between machines and their users. There are a plethora of different devices that provide their users with this possibility. The ones that immediately come to our mind are Goggle Assistant, Cortana, Siri, and Alexa. These will provide you with a possibility to ask a question to make a command that will be executed by the device. One of the biggest concerns about this approach is the question of privacy.
The other, less obvious component is something that bears the name of natural language processing, or NLP. Sure, it cannot work without the other two components, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. We can see that there is a lot of different software that’s using this technology. Not only that, this trend has become pretty popular among consumers. If you are aware of these two components we have now, just think about what we will be able to use in the future. Just imagine having a digital assistant with whom you can have the same communication as you have with people. That way, you will be able to resolve a large chunk of the obligations you have throughout the day.
We’ve mentioned the fact that the question of privacy is the most important one when it comes to voice technology. Sure, you will need to say something to your phone, and this represents some kind of breach of your privacy. The reason being that someone can hear what you are searching for, which is not the case you will face when typing a query into the search engine. Anyway, we are talking about the technology that was born out of the need for third parties to analyze something for users of a wide array of different devices. But, when there’s something good about a certain process, there’s the chance that there will be something bad that follows it. Nevertheless, despite the unquestioned setbacks of voice technology, we believe it provides much more benefits down the road.
In the end, we would like to point out that the further development of voice recognition and other similar technologies are inevitable. Sure, this is something that will change our way of life and push us towards the future. We’ve been preparing for these changes for quite some time, are you? If not, there’s no better time for you to start than now.
