People always look at others when buying something. Some like to talk to their friends to get advice; others just want to know how their significant other will feel about it. And some people out there turn to their favorite Instafamous celebrities and influencers when they need to know what to buy. Aren’t influencers and the Instafamous the same? Not quite. While the terms are often used interchangeably, they do mean different things. And today, we’re going to discuss what the terms mean and how you can use these two types to ensure your social media campaigns get the success they deserve. Without further ado…
An influencer is a social media user – often with a large following – that creates content that resonates with people and affects their life habits. Nowadays, influencers come in all shapes and sizes. You have the tech, fitness, gaming, cooking, and even scientific influencers. An influencer understands how social media platforms work, but they also know how to leverage their knowledge to influence the way people think. Now, that’s not the only thing that makes influencers what they are. In some cases, they’re highly skilled content creators that know what type of content will resonate with their target audience the most. They know how to balance fun/interesting/visually appealing content with promotion. For that reason, people line up to work with influencers of all sizes. With only a few Instagram or Twitter posts, they can change the way people perceive your entire brand.
Instafamous is the term used to describe people who are mainly known for their Instagram profiles. They have large followings on the network where they post regularly. For their followers, they’re celebrities who do have some influence on their habits. However, outside of Instagram, Instafamous don’t have much influence at all. They’re celebrities in certain circles of people, but they’re just like most of us outside that. But if you want to promote yourself among their target audience, they can be just the ingredient you were looking for.
To put it simply, if you’re looking for a minor celebrity endorsement to push a certain product, then yes, an Instafamous person will help you. They can try and advertise your product to their massive following, and with a little bit of luck, your product will get the exposure you feel it needs and catches on. However, that’s about it. You can’t expect anything else from an Instafamous person. On the other hand, influencers can get you a lot more bang for your buck. Not only can they sell your product to their followers, but they can also create multiple pieces of content around your brand, collaborate with you on a campaign, and many more things. They’re businesspeople in their own right who understand how to market on social media.
While influencers understand the power of social media and the know-how to turn it into profit, the same can’t be said about the Instafamous crowd. While they certainly understand social media, they mainly know how to promote their brand on it. Some know how to turn that into profit, while others don’t. That’s not their main interest. Marketers have used celebrities to promote their businesses from the dawn of marketing. However, you have to keep in mind that an Instafamous person will only boost your profile for a certain amount of time. They don’t have the staying power to keep your brand or product relevant for a long time.
